Moskito, a private island in the British Virgin Islands is a new vacation destination with a collection of four ultra-luxe rental estates, perfectly combining the intimacy of an exquisite private villa with the impeccable level of service and sophisticated amenities of a luxury resort.
A short boat ride from Virgin Gorda, Moskito is one of just a handful of private islands found in the North Sound. An area renowned for its natural beauty, calm cerulean waters, rich marine life, and high-end properties. This exclusive collection of islands attracts a discerning clientele looking for an unparalleled vacation experience – all of which Moskito delivers in spades.
In 2007, Sir Richard Branson purchased Moskito and set out to transform it into a sanctuary for like-minded entrepreneurs. As the pioneer builder, Branson envisioned more than a personal retreat; he sought to cultivate a community of innovative thinkers. His home established the island’s distinctive blend of luxury and barefoot charm. Ultimately, he attracted a discerning group of well-traveled, financially-savvy individuals from around the globe who have infused their homes with the best hospitality experiences. Today, his vision is realised with the unique estates available for rent, each embodying its own personality, while honoring the island’s distinctive character.
The true beauty of the estates is in how they differ, in decor, style, and amenities. From the sleek lines at the Oasis estate to the vivid rainbow lights at the Village and the colorful mix of patterned tiles at Cape Stout. In collaboration with leading architects and designers, each property is conceptualised by the homeowner and reflects their individual tastes, preferences, and needs. As a result, every estate boasts a distinct personality and lends itself to a different vacation ideal: The Point is designed as a gathering place for friends and families, The Village is made to host grand celebrations, The Oasis is the perfect setting for corporate retreats, and Cape Stout is unmatched as a home base for design enthusiasts and thrill-seekers.
Each estate hosts between 24 and 40 guests. There are swimming pools, three beaches and beach bars, and a dedicated estate management team ensures their vacation is the perfect mix of relaxation and excitement. The island’s communal areas feature the main Beach House with exclusive dining spaces, two tennis courts, a pickleball court, hiking trails, a fully equipped gym, and a top-of-the-range water sports centre with instructors to ensure that you get the most out of the tantalising blue water that surrounds you. Guests can participate in a host of water sports activities, including kayaking, paddle boarding, SEABOBS, rings and towable fun, plus Hobie-cat sailing. You can enjoy the privacy and freedom of having an estate to yourself while benefiting from exceptional facilities usually only associated with the world’s finest hotels.
When it comes to dining, each estate’s world-class, private chef ensures your every culinary whim is catered to; well in advance of arrival, guests have a detailed consultation with the estate manager and digital preference forms are submitted by each guest within the group to ensure menus and activities are coordinated individually – including wine and cocktail pairings – so you can be confident that all tastes and dietary requirements are covered as the team curates a tailored experience for the entire group. Whether you crave Thai food or want the finest French cheeses, all rates include your meals, fine wines, and spirits. The chefs pride themselves on sourcing the very best ingredients, utilising global culinary influences, and growing an array of fruit trees, fresh herbs, and produce in the island’s kitchen gardens.
“Designed as the ultimate vacation retreats, these homes epitomise luxury and exclusivity with a focus on connection under the motto that time together is life’s greatest luxury. Much like chartering a yacht, the concept mirrors the “chartering a home” trend, complete with an estate manager ensuring every detail is handled, while dedicated chefs and a full staff are committed to providing seamless, round-the-clock service.” Moskito’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Shaylene Todd Enlow explained.
The Estates Cape Stout
The newest addition to the island’s collection of estates – a seamless blend of modern luxury and style, offering astonishing ocean views and direct beach access, along with unlimited access to a power boat and private captain.
The smooth white Mediterranean-style walls of the exterior belie a tasteful mix of colours, patterns, textures, and unique art pieces in the interior of Cape Stout. The seven king-bed suites all have vivid pops of colour, intricate wood detailing, and a plethora of tile finishes, creating a unique and cohesive style throughout the estate. There are two generous primary suites with outdoor showers, jacuzzis, private terraces and gardens.
The guest rooms are equally remarkable, each with their own luxurious amenities, including kitchenettes and spacious living areas. Younger guests will love the custom-built bunk room that features three queen-sized and two double beds, a large central space with PlayStation, locker room style en suite, wet bar and Smeg fridge filled with child-appropriate goodies.
The main villa boasts a large interior dining room, chef’s kitchen, comfortable seating areas, a mezzanine floor with a retro record player, and an impressive library of records.
Even the most active guests won’t get bored at Cape Stout, with its full peloton-equipped gym, separate lap pool, half basketball court that turns into an outdoor movie theatre, and private path to secluded Honeymoon Beach, where you will experience the most stunning snorkeling.
The estate’s vast pool runs under the main villa next to the aptly named Canal Bar – the perfect place to gather for drinks and hors d’oeuvres poolside, before moving to the al fresco dining area for delicious home-made pizza from the wood fire pizza oven, while watching the sunset.
The Point Estate
Perched on the point between two of Moskito’s beautiful beaches, Manchineel Beach and Lime Tree Bay, The Point Estate can host up to 16 adults in its eight king bedrooms and offers convenient walking access to the two beaches and panoramic views of the surrounding islands.
The suites are spread across the property and linked by landscaped pathways and stairs. Each suite features an en suite bathroom, a private terrace, an outdoor shower, and breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. Two large primary suites offer additional seating areas and soaking tubs. A bunk room provides the ultimate den for up to eight kids.
The great room at The Point Estate features a spacious living area with floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto a large terrace and the pool, which wraps around the front. The interior design combines contemporary elegance with Balinese influences, featuring natural materials and comfortable furnishings. The roof features an intricately carved wooden map of the world. The villa’s design emphasises natural materials and open spaces, creating a tranquil and inviting atmosphere.
Ideal for groups of frends and families looking to strike the perfect balance between private seclusion and quality time spent together. The great room has a host of games and comfortable couches adjacent to the infinity pool while the suites offer lush garden surroundings and private terraces with magical views.
A table set within the pool shallows at sunset makes for one of life’s truly unforgettable evenings, often complimented by a steel pan band or the saxophone stylings of Kamau George.
The Oasis Estate
This incredible estate epitomises modern luxury, offering a sleek and contemporary design. Set on the highest part of the island, the striking main villa is designed to look like the bow of a yacht. It is the most modern of all the estates in terms of decor, with a waterfall at the entrance and an elevator from the ground floor to the sky bar. The main villa at The Oasis Estate features an open-plan living area with floor-to-ceiling windows that provide uninterrupted ocean views and two levels of communal living space that are ideal for large groups. The interior design is modern and minimalist, with clean lines, chrome finishes, neutral tones, and high-end furnishings.
Oasis features eleven bedrooms, each with en suite bathrooms and an adjacent living area, accommodating up to 22 guests at double occupancy. However, the estate can welcome up to 40 guests when utilising the sofa bed in the living room of each suite.
The guest villas are connected to the main house by a shallow crescent-shaped pool that encircles the estate and meets the deck of each poolside villa, ensuring that you are never more than a few footsteps away from the water.
Oasis is ideal for multi-generational families, with five bedrooms under a single roof. True to its name and due to its size and serene surroundings, this estate is also ideally suited to wellness retreats and corporate incentive groups.
The Village Estate
By far the most eclectic in terms of decor – The Village is the ultimate party pad. In the evening the estate comes alive in a rainbow spectrum of lights, and a hidden DJ booth rises through the floor (yes, really!).
The Village Estate is vibrant and social with a waterslide, an in-pool fire pit, an in-pool dining table, a second pool with a grotto, a luxurious home cinema, and club-level sound systems. The Village Estate can accommodate up to 18 guests in its nine Balinese-style cottage suites, each with en suite bathrooms and private balconies. With a host of bespoke high-tech audio-visual devices, this estate offers a unique blend of traditional architecture and ultra-modern amenities.
The great room at The Village Estate features a large living area with vaulted ceilings, a bar with beers on tap, swinging day beds with sea views, a games area with a pool table, and a one-of-a-kind custom interactive spiral staircase with lights that move to the beat.
Shaylene goes on to express the concept behind the four distinctive rental estates on the island, explaining that “recognising the need to address ultra-luxury travel trends with a distinctly unique offering, Moskito now boasts its own dedicated brand and operational structure and offers an unmatched hospitality experience. Not merely full-service estates within a hotel framework but distinctive accommodations providing hyper-curated and highly personalised stays. No other luxury villa product rivals Moskito’s guest capacity and commitment to individualised curation”.
In short, Moskito redefines luxury travel. The estates provide unmatched indulgence and privacy, making the island a standout destination. Whether celebrating a milestone occasion, planning a family vacation, or organising a corporate retreat, the estates provide the perfect setting for an unforgettable stay. With fully personalised service, idyllic island views, and a wide range of activities, Moskito is truly a paradise for those looking for total luxury and seclusion.
Moskito’s four estates can be rented with a 5-suite/3-night minimum stay (with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas, which have a 7-night minimum).
