Workers at local businesses continue to fill residential dumpsters with large boxes and other commercial bulky waste, forcing householders to place their garbage on the ground outside the bin. The wooden pallets, construction waste and cardboard boxes which fill this dumpster are prime examples of items that should not be found in the residential bins. Under the Litter Abatement Act, this type of illegal dumping carries a maximum fine of $500. The Solid Waste Department again urges businesses to transport their commercial waste to the incinerator plant.
