Almost every fairy-tale we were told as children gave us comfort when the ending revealed our hero or heroine living happily ever after. Like its name which reflects serenity and peace, Solace, presented by Villas of Tortola, is a fairy-tale-like villa in which to cherish your stay in the BVI.

With the owners of the property deciding to share the magic of their holiday home with Tortola’s visitors, Villas of Tortola is excited to be the first to offer Solace as a vacation rental.

Located in a hidden and close-knit community of homes on Spy Glass Hill in Tortola’s West End, Solace appears like an enchanted cottage from a story book with an added Caribbean flair.

Stone walls at the entrance contribute an old-world character to the bright white exterior with a grey tin roof, wooden trim, and classically island-style orange clay tiles.

An eclectic mixture of flora and fauna including species of cactus, red flamboyant flowers, and tropical palms along with decorative coral stones enhance the fantasy feel with an original tropical twist.

Entering the main house, the living room is adorned with intriguing décor, including a wall of square paintings telling stories from the owners’ younger guests who visited Solace over the years. The space contains a large wooden dining table, and a leather futon and teak Indonesian chairs for enjoying a DVD or a book from the collection of literature and media perched on the book shelves.

Joining the living room, the kitchen features all the modern applications and amenities of a contemporary home, while emitting a classic feel with rich dark custom cabinetry.

The kitchen’s double  windows open out to the spacious porch area where meals can be served al-fresco on two round wooden tables, or casual appetisers enjoyed in a unique outdoor lounge area with bright orange and slate-coloured sofas.

Solace comfortably accommodates 10 guests in five colourfully furnished bedrooms.

The first and second bedroom are off the main living area, one holding a four-poster queen-size canopy bed, attached to the second bedroom with a king bed, featuring a large bay window with cushioned seating, overlooking the tropical gardens. These two rooms share a half bathroom and a second bathing area with double sinks and indoor shower.

Accessible from outside the living area, the third bedroom is attached to the main building and contains a king-size bed with an en suite bathroom and opens to its own separate sun lounging area.

Up a stone staircase illuminated by blue lights, the fourth and fifth bedrooms are separate from the main house in the heart of the upper entertaining patio. Both are Caribbean-inspired and contain king-size beds and wooden shutters which open to the gardens and a private balcony. These rooms share a bathroom with double sinks and an outdoor shower.

Connecting the two upper bedrooms is also a small kitchenette; a convenient area with a refrigerator and sink suitable for preparing drinks and finger foods to be served at the outside bar table on the expansive upper deck area; the perfect space for everyone to gather at any time of day.

Along with fun and comfortable sun-loungers, the entertaining area is complete with a 16 x 8 ft swimming pool, ideal for a refreshing dip in the afternoon sun.

Visible from the property are astonishing vistas of Tortola’s West End, including Long Bay Hill to the West, Apple Bay beach directly below, and Carrot Bay and Cane Garden Bay looking towards the North shore.

Gazing out to the ocean, the USVI islands of St. Thomas and St. John, as well as the neighbouring BVI archipelagos of Jost Van Dyke and the Tobago’s paint a scenic view of the tropical surroundings.

Spy Glass Hill is centrally located in the West End, as it’s at the peak of the mountain with a 10-minute drive leading down to the West End Ferry terminal and Soper’s Hole Marina containing a variety of lively restaurants, shops and services, and the other side channelling to the community of Apple Bay.

A popular surfing beach, Apple Bay is also home to the legendary Bomba Shack which hosts monthly full moon parties, and restaurants offering a taste of delicious, local upscale cuisine such as Sebastian’s on the Beach Hotel, and The Sugar Mill Hotel with its beach-side restaurant Islands.

For a tropical fairy-tale experience in the Caribbean in accommodations with all the essential modern amenities, astonishing views of the ocean and neighbouring islands, and unbeatable access to Tortolan cuisine and culture, Solace provides a holiday ambiance to treasure.
