Visitors and residents of the BVI may or may not know, but in this region, there is a place so splendid, it has enchanted family generations and loyal, repeat visitors for decades. This retreat continues to surprise its patronage by improving on its promise of revitalisation, good health, and culinary excellence.
Rosewood Little Dix Bay (RLD) is the resort under the ‘sun-light’ this holiday season and among its phenomenal accommodations, the respite has sought enhancement of its famous amenities, reinforcing its favoured name. Residing at the resort or simply visiting for the day truly is the path to experiencing perfect serenity.
Why Rosewood’s Spa Sense?
There are a plethora of spas to choose from in the Virgin Islands and especially in the BVI, so the obvious question for a resident or visitor is: why Sense spa?
For the ‘wellness’ enthusiast, Sense delivers a unique atmosphere by utilising RLD’s natural surroundings as well as the BVI’s native provisions in the spa treatments available. The new Sense Journeys combine a selection of services that can include a two-three hour spa treatment, culminating in a rejuvenating excursion around Rosewood’s serene environs.
Fans of spas will appreciate the perceptive use of Caribbean nature, exemplified in The Spring Bay Sojourn, taking its inspiration from the name sake beach with its massive stone boulders, and the unique grottoes formed where sun, sand, surf, and stone meet. The treatment incorporates the use of a mineral salt and vitamin scrub that exfoliates the skin; a marine algae wrap which envelopes the body; and a hot stone massage, using small, polished volcanic stones heated and applied to specific points on the body; this promotes circulation and soothes tired muscles. Concluding, guests assume a guided trip to Spring Bay to replete with a packed gourmet picnic lunch, beach towels, and beach umbrella.
The Mango & Pineapple Sugar scrub is another signature Sense Spa treatment that uses BVI natural ingredients including organic crystallised brown sugar to create an exfoliating serum. Also, the increasingly popular Coconut Spice scrub, employing fresh grated coconut with local aromatics nutmeg, clove, cinnamon and ginger – guests are treated to fresh coconut water post-treatment.
New Sense of Beginning options are available for the young, new spa-goer. Fun massages and cleansing treatments like the Frangipani Fresh facial cleanse and mask treatment introduces the ‘tween and teen’ crowd to the wellness spa experience, integrated with a take-home personalised skin prescription and homecare advice.
A back, foot or scalp massage, with hydrating coconut lotion offers weary muscles a welcome relief in the ‘So Coco’ treatment while ‘Fruity Fingers & Toes’ combines a hand and foot massage with island fruit infused lotions, finishing with a file and perfect polish for the fingers and toes.
In the Virgin Islands where there is an abundance of luxurious excursions making it a challenge to select the ideal option, Sense’s innovative exercise of blending natural resources and the tropical environment with its services makes it conspicuous as the haven to exceed gratification.
Catering to the Holiday Health Craze
In our health conscious world, it has become fashionable to stay fit on holiday and even improve on physique, so that one returns home looking better than when they left. In partnership with FranklyFitness of New York City, Rosewood Little Dix Bay offers a holistic wellness programme designed to have guests ‘Moving Well, Feeling Well, and Being Well.’
FranklyFitness movement specialists lead classes in various stunning locations on resort grounds, harnessing Virgin Gorda’s beauty as the setting to focus on building the mind, body, and spirit. Professionals offer a full range of wellness options from traditional strength training, to more dynamic alternatives like boxing and yoga.
Meditation sessions are offered in tranquil settings like Casey Bay, the resort’s secluded relaxation beach, or the yoga platform, situated at the highest point on resort grounds, with stunning 360 degree views of the resort and the Caribbean Sea. The consultants are also certified to offer fitness lifestyle sessions, developing programmes tailored for the beginner to the professional athlete.
Culinary Journeys
Innovation is the current motivation in Rosewood Little Dix Bay’s kitchen; Executive Chef Ricardo Cera recently joined the resort and his supervision is introducing several new food and beverage programmes.
With over 15 years’ experience—most recently serving as an executive sous chef at Antigua’s Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort—Cera’s Portuguese background will spark in fresh seafood dishes, that embody complex flavours. His goal is to further highlight the excellent ingredients that can be had in the Caribbean with a focus on honouring the culture of the region.
Chef Ricardo and Food & Beverage Director Fabio Petrone will also oversee the execution of a range of new dining experiences like Rosewood’s A Sense Of Taste programme, offering bespoke dining to guests with a demanding palate.
Visitors will enjoy excursions exemplified in the Anegada Lobster Experience. The Coral atoll is renowned for copious Spiny Anegada Lobsters; during the journey, guests will snorkel the reefs the lobsters call home, while learning about the crustacean. This followed by dining at ‘Big Bamboo,’ a restaurant known by oral tradition for being one of the best locales to enjoy grilled spiny lobster.
RLD dining options include a new intimate setting aptly named, Dining On The Rocks; a new table scene for up to four guests is arranged in a quiet nook between massive volcanic boulders, right along Little Dix Bay Beach; a canopy of sea grape offers cover and allows guests to look out on the bright stars above. By candle light and tiki torch, guests will feast on a custom curated menu designed the day before in collaboration with Chef Ricardo.
Dining connoisseurs will be captivated by the diversity offered in both the cuisine and these special locations.
With such amenities available, Rosewood Little Dix Bay appears to be in leading position to take BVI patronage on a vacation experience that fulfils all desires. There is no doubt that new and repeat visitors flying in for the holiday season will be thrilled.
