Many have heard of the renowned private resort in the North Sound of Virgin Gorda, Oil Nut Bay. Founder and Chairman, Mr David V. Johnson wanted to create the same feel and vibe as the resort, so came up with Oil Nut Bay Marina Village – a place for everyone to enjoy.
Here Mr Johnson and his team have created a world-class marina, high-end restaurant Nova, a coffee shop, Luna Boutique for the ladies and water sports and menswear store, Deep Bay Watersports.
Deep Bay Watersports has teamed up with Anegada based Tommy Gaunt Kiting School to not only offer guests kayak, SUPs and e-foiling rentals but also professional kiting and wing foiling lessons in the North Sound.
Haven’t got the right gear? No problem, at Deep Bay Watersports menswear retail store guests can pick up water sports gear, shoes, apparel and accessories from some of the most renowned leisurewear brands.
What is e-foiling?
E-foil boards look similar to surfboards but with a foil underneath. They are battery-powered with a wireless remote control. This creates an experience that’s a mix of surfing, flying and deep powder snowboarding. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced thrill-seeker, the e-foil allows you to ride over any body of water.
Deep Bay Watersports have become an affiliate of Puerto Rico made Lift Foils – a leader in e-foil manufacturing.
The Lessons
The dedicated Instructor at Deep Bay Watersports can take up to 6 people per lesson. Each lesson is two hours long and to start with all guests are given a safety briefing, general information about the e-foils and are provided with safety gear, including helmet, impact vest and knee pads.
The lesson begins with a 15-minute demonstration on land with simulations, then guests launch off the small beach at Oil Nut Bay Marina Village to learn, in progressive steps, how to e-foil. The instructor accompanies the guests on the water in a small powerboat where they provide hands-on teaching, tips and demonstrations. Guests are kept in a small area to begin with, then as confidence grows are able to utilise more of the bay by the end of the lesson.
The area where guests learn is directly in front of Oil Nut Bay Marina Village, in Deep Bay, unless the weather is inclement, in which case the instructor will transport the guests to a more sheltered area in North Sound.
“It is the one foiling sport that is the easiest to learn. No matter your level of experience, just come with good balance and an enjoyment of the water and we’ll get you riding on the e-foil right here in the stunning waters of the North Sound.” Roy Keegan, Owner.
Access when arriving by boat is easy – you can either dock your boat at Oil Nut Bay Marina Village or pick up a mooring buoy in Deep Bay and come to Deep Bay Watersports retail location to start the lesson. All while your friends and family relax and enjoy all of the amazing marina amenities including Nova Restaurant, the coffee shop and provisioning store, Luna Boutique and Deep Bay Watersports retail.
The instructors can also provide rendezvous lessons within the North Sound area for boats that cannot make it to Deep Bay. Please inquire about this service upon booking.
