Where relaxation meets celebration, Jost Van Dyke (JVD) boasts the strange dichotomy of being one of the Caribbean’s best kept secrets and at the same time having a large, loyal North American fan base. As a 18-acre waterfront retreat situated on the island, White Bay Villas and Seaside Cottages has numerous options for activities and entertainment, while retaining the authentic island culture.

If seeking serenity accompanied by homely hospitality, a stay at White Bay Villas and Seaside Cottages—voted the BVI’s Best Resort, Hotel/Accommodation at the 2015 Readers’ Choice Awards—is the prime selection.

About 40 years ago, a young John Klein who loved JVD was sailing in the Caribbean. He purchased land in the tropical hotspot, made it his home, and built the beginnings of White Bay Villas with what is now known as the Plantation Villa. He visualised a long-term eco-friendly dream for the property, which he still oversees.

Hailing from California and Virginia with 50 years’ combined experience in the hospitality industry, new managers Debbie and Chris plan to further exceed guests’ expectations with a full-service resort model and enhanced concierge services.

Physical changes are currently underway as the cordial couple have been working to upgrade the entire property’s units, first with soft renovations such as replacing linens and appliances with the next stage being decorative remodelling.

Eight new one-bedroom cottages were recently approved by government with construction set to commence in 2016, and will be available in the 2016-2017 season.

Accompanying their development is a plan for an on-site upscale restaurant, providing the most unique dining option overlooking the coast.

Currently, the resort includes 12 separate private buildings, with sizes ranging from one to four bedrooms, all delivering outstanding views of White Bay, St John, St Thomas, and Tortola.

All are en suite, equipped with full-service kitchens, TV, and sound systems. Each has a unique but classically Caribbean interior with local artwork and an eclectic mix of tropical decor.

Plantation Villa can accommodate up to 10 guests in three en suite bedrooms with a shared living space, plus a separate guest-apartment downstairs.

Sunset Villa East is a gorgeous contemporary-Caribbean two-bedroom villa with an indoor/outdoor flow, allowing a calming breeze and the natural sunlight to fill the house. The master-suite is positioned facing the ocean, and with the double doors opened, the astonishing vista of the turquoise water can be relished from the comfort of your bed.

Attached by a shared veranda, Sunset Villa West is a smaller one-bedroom unit also with its own terrace which can be occupied privately or as a combined rental with Sunset Villa East.

Tucked away behind luscious foliage, Hideaway House is newly renovated and accommodates four guests in a master bedroom plus a smaller guest room with a shared living and kitchen area.

Three cosy, open-plan one-bedroom units—the Seaside Cottages—give prime access to the beach down the property’s private trail.

Elevated and nestled within the colourful flora and exotic fruit trees, the four two-bedroom Hillside Villas present a truly tropical ambiance.

Just a short jaunt down to White Bay, the beach is lined with an array of beach-bars by day, which transform into candlelit dining establishments at night. This spot is a favourite for day charters and is home to the Territory’s signature drink, ‘The Painkiller.’

A five minute drive, or 15 minute walk, Great Harbour is another entertainment hub, with restaurants featuring live music and dancing as the vibe kicks up a notch in the evenings.

White Bay Villas and Jost Van Dyke are being promoted as ‘The Last Virgin Island,’ the final isle that still conveys the authentic Caribbean aesthetic and way of life.

“We take pride in drawing our guests into adventures and local experiences they may not have thought of enjoying, and we delight in seeing the travellers relishing their new discoveries,” said managers Debbie and Chris.
