Editor’s Letter, February 2014
The height of the BVI sailing season is here…
…and with this welcome news, come a host of regattas for avid sailors and spectators to enjoy; one such race falls in line with February’s etched celebration Valentine’s Day with the annual Sweetheart’s of the Caribbean Regatta – a widely popular event. In this issue, Geoffrey Brooks, curator of the Virgin Islands Maritime Museum reveals that Endeavour II—the traditional styled sloop that had its grand christening at the end of 2013—will be making its debut in this particular ‘lovers’ race’. This is a greatly anticipated time for the boat, which was the project of the Jost Van Dyke Preservation Society who intend to educate the youth of JVD with the vessel among other motivations.
Also in this issue, we feature two vastly different properties that are currently on the market: A visit to Golden Pavilion Villa transported us to tranquillity through its Balinese design influence and powerfully serene ambience. A review of Steele Point Estate—a shining example in contemporary architecture—boasts a unique location that stands as the epitome of privacy.
Edward Childs of Smiths Gore provides a comprehensive review of the success of North Sound, Virgin Gorda – a location that optimistically looks to greatly assist in boosting the economy of the BVI property market. And no magazine issue would be complete without a few tips to guide homeowners on improving their real estate – this time, Sotheby’s volunteers their advice on the benefits of attractive landscaping.
In closing, our first ever photography competition is progressing nicely with some stunning submissions. Log on and show off your own photos or vote for your favourites. There are certainly a couple of images that we think could use a slight bolster in admiration as they are exceptionally attractive – bvipropertyyacht.com/bvi-photo
We look forward to more of your entries.
