In this issue, as Smiths Gore highlights the transformation of its brand and showcases Red Rock Villa, one of the sister island’s most thoughtful and stunning architectural wonders, situated at Princess Quarters, The Valley, Virgin Gorda.

But amid its impressive construction and stunning views, the villa unveils even more secrets, that offer a new brand of perfect Zen tranquility and unparalleled delight.

Meet the Villa

Designed with skill and built with strength, Red Rock Villa integrates seamlessly with the Virgin Gorda landscape. It’s nestled among the red boulders of Coppermine Ridge, situated atop one of the highest points in The Valley. Hence, you can take in the views of both the Atlantic Ocean to its east and the Caribbean Sea to its west. Enjoy a morning sunrise and an evening sunset over neighbouring islands, all amidst a cool breeze for a feeling of complete tranquility.

Constructed in 2012, Red Rock was imagined and built by German architect Hubert Horbach using high-quality building materials brought over from Europe. The villa’s design centers around a charming courtyard with a koi pond, outdoor dining area, Great Room, bedrooms, spa and swimming pool deck. An impressive 8,000-square-feet of covered space fills each pavilion that circles the courtyard, while an additional 2,000-square-feet of exterior space holds the peaceful Zen garden that invites meditation and ease.

The interior

The Great House boasts ocean views from every room. Its open-plan design features a contemporary kitchen, dining and living rooms, and an elegant staircase to a mezzanine floor with entertainment space. A sun-filled porch offers seating and the modern kitchen provides Viking appliances. Enjoy meals at the wooden slab table and relax in the elegantly casual living room. The chlorine-free pool has a Garbo Buchtal tile deck, underwater lights, a sand filtration system and teak covered lounge for sunbathing or yoga.

Upper-level bedrooms

The upper level of the spa pavilion houses the master suite known as Two Oceans. It boasts expansive glass doors that look out onto both the Atlantic and Caribbean Seas. The other two bedrooms, Taddy Bay and Coppermine Bay, offer stunning ocean views from their king-sized beds. These bedrooms also feature walk-in closets, German-made Dornbracht faucets and carved stone basins from Bali for a truly luxurious experience.

Spa and Zen garden

The spa is located adjacent to the courtyard on one side and a Zen garden on the other. It contains an ensuite bathroom for individual or multiple massages, fully equipped with air conditioning, linens and aromas to provide relaxation. The soothing sound of running water comes from the koi pond and the Zen garden’s leaves rustling in the wind. The room which houses the spa can easily be changed into a fourth bedroom.

Idyllic location

The villa is within five minutes of some of Virgin Gorda’s most beautiful beaches like Spring Bay, Savannah Bay and Valley Trunk. There are two national parks nearby as well: The Baths and Coppermine Ruins. It’s also near shopping, banking, transportation routes, the airport, ferry terminal and Spanish Town commercial centre. A 20-minute drive brings one to North Sound Channel featuring resorts such as Necker Island, Saba Rock, Bitter End Yacht Club and Oil Nut Bay. Then there’s a short drive through Princess Quarters residential estate to Red Rock Villa.

Balinese landscaping

Guests will be surrounded by a luxuriant garden upon entering the electronic gate. This garden is designed to incorporate local plants with imported trees for balance. A Balinese sculpture sits under an ancient Indian rubber tree for added visual appeal. Additionally, there are many tranquil spots in the garden perfect for relaxation.

Construction details

Red Rock was built to superior German standards. Its exterior walls are concrete-clad and insulated with YTONG interlocking plates. Slate grey shingle roofs, copper guttering from Germany and ‘cathedral’ ceilings support the villa’s interior, made of Canadian plywood and steel beams. Aluminum windows and doors contain European glass panes, while Dominican Republic limestone tiles line the floors. Accordion-pleated hurricane shutters can be easily closed when storms approach.

Other spaces

Downstairs is an office currently being used as an extra room, which has its own restroom. There are also a few more spaces such as a laundry room, storage area, pool maintenance room and staff restroom.

Your blissful escape on Virgin Gorda

Red Rock Villa is an exceptional example of creativity and meticulous craftsmanship combining European elements with an ideal tropical getaway. It’s a destination for those looking to escape from reality into a new definition of tranquil bliss.
