Monday, May 21 – The Department of Agriculture is planning a follow-up workshop to their Jams, Jellies & Preserves workshop held last November.

The workshop, Marketing Your Product: Packaging and Labelling will be held on June 2 at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College from 10:00a.m to 3:00p.m.

“The aim of this workshop is to highlight the importance of good presentation techniques through packaging and labelling of products,” Marketing Officer Mrs. Unis O. Donovan said.

Mrs. Donovan also said at the end of the workshop participants will become more skilled in presenting their products to consumers.  “As a result,” she said, “more consumers will be encouraged to purchase locally made products.”

The BVI has had a rich cultural tradition in using locally grown fruits, vegetables and nuts to make preservatives and other tasty treats.  The Department of Agriculture is anticipating that more residents will get involved and realise this cultural tradition as an economic opportunity.  “We are encouraging people in the Territory to maintain BVI culture by preserving local fruits and vegetables, while entering a meaningful industry.” said Mrs. Donovan

The packaging and labelling workshop is designed to be very informative and interactive.  All interested persons are invited to register by Wednesday, May 30 to attend the workshop.   For further information and registration, please contact the Marketing Unit of the Department of Agriculture at 495-2110 or 468-3701 extension 6123/ 6124.
