Tortola, British Virgin Islands, May 24, 2007 – Hot on the heels of the Pusser's Painkiller Thriller, event organizers and sponsors have announced the Pusser's Painkiller Chiller – a four-event windsurfing series in the British Virgin Islands. To take place over the next two months, the series is planned to be a fun event where participating and having fun will be more important than winning. The racing will be structured to the wind conditions and locations but could see a mix of course, slalom, speed trials and destination racing.
"We're going to be very flexible with the format. We will run racing at each event even if turns into a paddleboard contest because there's no wind!" said Owen Waters of Island Surf & Sail. "The key is to get out on the water and have fun. The racing will be held at Pusser's Marina Cay, Oscar's, West End, and Little Thatch island. These venues have been chosen to combine the best mix of 'raceability' and family-friendliness."
The race schedule is as follows:
Sunday, June 3 – Pusser's Marina Cay
Sunday, June 17 – Little Thatch
Sunday, July 1 – Oscar's, West End
Weather-dependent, this leg may include a downwind dash from Nanny Cay.
Sunday, July 15 – Pusser's Marina Cay
The series will be scored on the low points system and the races of all four legs will count towards overall points. Pusser's will be giving $300, $200 and $100 gift certificates to the top three series finishers. Entry fee is $50 for the four events and will include an event t-shirt. First start is planned for 10.30am on each race day. Pusser's Marina Cay has a regular ferry service, transportation to Little Thatch will be finalized nearer the event. Competitors should contact Owen Waters at Island Surf & Sail on 494 0123 for further details and to register.
Pusser's Rum, event sponsor, is the Original Navy Rum that was served onboard ships of the Royal Navy for 330 years. The "single malt of rum" and father of grog, Pusser's Rum is recognized as the world's most rich and full-flavoured rum – and it's all natural, no flavouring agents are used.
Pusser's owes its rich and unique flavour to its distillation in wood. It is the only rum, and in fact the only spirit in the world, that is still distilled in wood; hand-crafted in the inefficient and costly old way in wooden pot-stills. Pusser's alcohol recovery is a mere 57% in contrast to the 99% or better of modern industrial metal column stills.
