The Highland Spring HIHO 2008 is gearing up to be staged as the most exhilarating windsurfing and sailing extravaganza yet to be hosted by the HIHO team. The annual BVI event, which takes place this year from June 29 – July 6, shows off the hot spots and shares the secrets of secluded beaches in the British Virgin Islands. Windsurfing racers will compete in class races blasting from one island to the next whilst non-racers follow the route aboard the captained Moorings catamarans, which serve as "home" for the week. Introducing a new racing category, faster sails and new additions to the itinerary for 2008, the organizers are determined to make this the perfect precursor to next year’s 30th anniversary.
Changes to the itinerary keep the route fresh and exciting. This year, racers and the fleet of captained Moorings yachts will make a lunch stop at Branson’s Mosquito Island in Virgin Gorda’s North Sound. Also on the itinerary is the famous 14-mile reach beyond the horizon to Anegada. Two heavy distance races back down the famed Sir Francis Drake Channel are also planned for this year.
“The Highland Spring HIHO continues to be the most action-packed windsurfing and sailing adventure anyone can hope to enjoy,” comments event organizer, Andy Morrell. “Our opening party this year will be on Vixen Point in Virgin Gorda and a beach start the following day will kick off the series of island-to-island races for the coming week.”
