The Department of Conservation & Fisheries have advised us that box jellyfish (also called sea wasps) have been sighted in the BVI. Verified sightings are at Norman and Cooper Islands. C&D assume they will be at the Baths as well.

In any case, anyone stung should NOT soak the area with fresh water but USE VINEGAR to stop the nematocycts from continuing to fire for at least ten minutes. Tentacles will need to be removed. Shaving the area will also help remove firing cells. Stings can be very painful and may cause anaphylactic shock. These particular jellyfish are difficult to sight as they are transparent and tentacles can be quite long.

This particular species is NOT the same as the deadly box jellyfish found in Australia.
