Strong and simple, in traditional Caribbean style but elegant in its execution: these are words that describe Lone Palm Villa. The giant king palm that towers above the property in its front drive was there prior to building and the palm theme is carried throughout this lovely property.
Lone Palm is accessed up a steep drive via Carrot Bay and shadowed by Sage Mountain. Its ocean views of the Atlantic are over myriad, swaying banana trees. The Mexican Saltillo-tiled entrance leads through large doors to an open-plan great room which includes an entry, dining and living areas and gourmet kitchen. Its colours are West Indian-inspired and almost Floridian in flavour, in periwinkle, yellows, coral and greens. All four bedrooms are unique in style, but carry through the Caribbean flavor. The house was built by the owner’s son, a high-end builder in California, and was architecturally designed for entertaining and family vacations.
A self-contained full guest apartment with kitchenette and ocean view is located down a flight of Saltillo-tiled stairs. It is worth noting that this villa has room for expansion. There are also architect plans ready for execution for an infinity pool, and an area for gardening, leading up to the existing outdoor shower.
Inside the main section of the house there are three ensuite bedrooms. With high ceilings, big ceiling fans and windows on every side, there is no need for air conditioning. The Saltillo tiling continues throughout, and each bedroom enjoys wicker furniture and subtle Caribbean colours of lime and yellow against the backdrop of white walls. All bedrooms on the main floor open to wide decking, and the two master suites have full ocean panoramas. The spacious cupboards offer ample storage room. The bathrooms allow you to truly indulge yourself; they are complete with showers, Caribbean colours and his and hers sink units in the owner’s suite. The owner suite is elegant and stylish, with trimmings done in classic mahogany, and the room exudes an air of peace and serenity.
Outdoor dining is a must, as the long teak tables allow owners and guests to enjoy views of sunset on the lavish deck. Wooden railings that have been lovingly maintained adorn the tiled deck, which is longer than the house itself and boasts plenty of room to relax in the lounge chairs to take in the ocean view or to entertain.
The most popular room has to be the great room, which is decorated with Tommy Bahama furniture and has a large tiled breakfast bar as well as an inside dining area. The approach is minimalist, lending the room an air of spacious solitude. The couches allow for intimate conversations and the area is separate from the kitchen and other areas of social interaction. Although the house is large, extreme detail has been given to the idea of personal space and social interface.
Lone Palm Villa is finished and ready to live in. Currently the owners employ a management company to attend to the property’s upkeep, although personal attention is evident.
This home is strategically placed for privacy but is close to Carrot Bay and West End as well as haunts such as Cane Garden and Long Bay. The grounds are professionally landscaped and consist of abundant banana, other fruit trees and Christmas Palms. Just built in 2000, Lone Palm Villa delivers the best of everything a modern town house would offer, except it’s located somewhere a little bit special… and if you are already here, you will know what we mean!
