ADDS BACK UP POWER FOR DOCKS – Tortola, British Virgin Islands, March 17, 2009 – Nanny Cay Resort and Marina in the British Virgin Islands, has just completed the final phase of its electrical infrastructure upgrades and can now supply back up power property-wide including all the docks, hotel, new townhouses and office and retail space.
Nanny Cay management has been rolling out the upgrade over the last year. A 600kw generator was installed in September, 2009 and the installation of a transformer near Peg Leg Landing bar and restaurant last week completed the roll out of back up power to the outer end of the 25-acre property, including the docks.
Nanny Cay management has also ensured that there is sufficient extra capacity to meet the power needs of hosted events like the BVI Spring Regatta which will be held March 30 – April 5, and the start of ARC Europe in May.
"There aren't many marinas in the Caribbean that supply emergency power to their docks. This is just another example of the constant upgrades we're making to create one of the pre-eminent marinas in the Caribbean," said Miles Sutherland-Pilch, general manager of Nanny Cay. "We're also very pleased that there'll be no outages during the BVI Spring Regatta which is the BVI's largest sporting event and needs power 100% of the time."
Nanny Cay also recently completed phase 1 of the Nanny Cay Village, its new waterside community. Eight waterfront townhouses are accommodated in two blocks: Pelican and Elizabeth. Each block comprises four, privately owned, two- and three-bedroom, multi-level homes. Phase 2 is currently underway with the construction of the Defiance building and an estimated completion date of December, 2009.
Nanny Cay Resort and Marina is Tortola's flagship marina. The hotel has forty-two, air-conditioned rooms plus the additional townhouse units in Nanny Cay Village. The naturally sheltered, 180-slip marina and boat yard offers comprehensive service and facilities for long and short-term visitors.
Nanny Cay Resort and Marina is the host and presenting sponsor of the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival, the Nanny Cay Nations Cup, the KATS (Kids And The Sea) Swim programme and the KATS Premiers Cup. It will host ARC Europe and the Caribbean 1500's Atlantic Cup for the first time this year.
