RFA WAVE KNIGHT CANCELS BVI VISIT
Friday, November 2 – The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Ship Wave Knight has cancelled its four-day informal visit to the Territory, which was scheduled to begin today.
Commanding Officer Capt. Ian N. Pilling (RFA) said that the cancellation is so that the ship can sail to the Dominican Republic to provide disaster relief aid in the wake of Tropical Storm Noel.
Capt. Pilling expressed his sincere apologies for cancelling the visit, and said that he hopes the Wave Knight will be able to visit the BVI in the future.
The RFA Wave Knight is currently on duty as part of the Royal Navy’s Atlantic Patrol Task (North). The Wave Knight has been involved in numerous recent counter narco-terrorism operations throughout the Caribbean area, as far west as Honduras and as far east as the Atlantic.
Tropical Storm Noel has been blamed for 73 deaths in the Dominican Republic and 40 in Haiti. The storm, which was upgraded to a Category 1 Hurricane today, brought rain to the Virgin Islands last weekend.
