There’s a refreshing energy to a new season in the BVI, and so many favourite restaurants, bars, and especially resorts are reopening. Many of these iconic destinations have been shuttered in some form since the devastating hurricanes of 2017, so it’s beyond exciting to feature updates on classic BVI getaways. Even amid a global pandemic and unforeseen challenges, the most famous resorts of the BVI are coming back stronger than ever before.

“The accommodations in the BVI have long been known for unpretentious elegance, and the offerings have grown steadily over time. From private island resorts to glamping, we are sure to have options for the most discerning guests.  Our exclusive private island resorts and other luxury properties offer personalised service, palate-pleasing culinary delights, engaging activities, health and wellness, while ensuring privacy, safety and security,” said Clive McCoy, Director of Tourism for British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission. “This has never been more important than at this present time. The Board is very excited about our resorts, as many have undergone extensive renovations and some total rebuilds within the past three years, creating a refreshing ambience that beckons all guests to visit and experience BVILOVE!”

Bitter End Yacht Club

Since the early 70s, Bitter End Yacht Club has been a beacon for sailors and island lovers alike. The classic Virgin Gorda destination has been busy rebuilding since the devastating hurricanes of 2016, and are positioned to reopen their Phase 1 plans of Bitter End 2.0 in the fall of 2021.

Phase 1 plans include opening their nautical village, which will provide accommodations and amenities to visitors and sailors from around the world. The marina’s centrepiece will be an open-air, two-story marina building with outdoor seating and a lounge with fabulous views of the comings and goings in North Sound. This gathering spot will be a one-of-a-kind venue where marina guests and yacht club members can gather for rum punches, sunsets and celebrations of all stripes.

There will be an array of private bathing facilities for the exclusive use of our marina guests, enhanced WIFI, shore power and other amenities to make sure your stay at the marina or in the mooring field will be convenient, comfortable and above all, fun.

As those who have spent time at sea know well, thoughtful provisioning is key to a happy crew and successful voyage. As part of Bitter End 2.0, a new and improved general store, the Bitter End Market is a highlight of the rebuild. The market will feature garden-grown produce, fresh-caught local seafood and prepared dishes, punctuated by gourmet treats and an array of wines, spirits and other beverages, all topped off by Chef Winston’s world-famous key lime pie and other bakery delights.

Bitter End 2.0 will also see the return of the Reeftique Boutique featuring island-style fashion alongside Bitter End’s own line of seaworthy goods from Bitter End Provisions. And Bitter End would not be the same without the beautiful beaches and robust watersports hut and activities programs. Kayaking, paddle boarding, diving, snorkelling, beachcombing, cruising and of course sailing will remain at the heart and soul of Bitter End. And, with over a mile of shoreline, Bitter End’s guests will be able to relax and unwind looking over the North Sound on some of the most beautiful beaches on the globe.

In addition to the marina’s nautical village, a small number of unique seaside bungalows will be ready for the Phase 1 reopening. These bungalows boast two floors with sweeping views of the North Sound and open-air verandas on both levels with the Caribbean Sea lapping just below. The second floor features the master suite and deck, while the first floor provides living space that can be converted into two additional single beds with a bath and deck, making it ideal for families or couples with ample space to relax and soak in the views.

On the heels of the Phase 1 reopening, continued work on the boutique hotel and 64-acre property redevelopment will evolve to include a variety of unique accommodations and hospitality amenities.

Long Bay Resort

Located on the iconic Long Bay Beach in West End, Tortola, Long Bay Resort is reborn. Often voted one of the top 10 beaches in the Caribbean, Long Bay Resort is set to reopen its beach bar, restaurant and six oceanfront rooms in early 2021.

The restaurant was built in 1748 as sugar storage, offers casual luxury and is starting with the famous Sunday brunches and special events. The new Palapa Beach Bar is open Thursday through Sunday. The beachfront guest rooms were created with a distinct vision of a natural, laid-back Caribbean vibe that blends indoors and out with a beach-chic aesthetic. Each room features a private patio.

Rosewood Little Dix Bay

Virgin Gorda’s iconic 500-acre escape, Rosewood Little Dix Bay, reopened to visitors on 4 December 2020. A new private jet charter service with Tropic Ocean Airways allows guests to book protected air travel, and enhanced health and safety measures are being taken all over the resort.

“The strength and resilience of Virgin Gorda and Rosewood Little Dix Bay never cease to amaze me, and I’m proud to unveil our plans to reopen the resort and share its magic with the world once again,” said Andreas Pade, managing director of Rosewood Little Dix Bay. “We’ve long made it our mission to provide an unparalleled, tailored experience to all who visit, and we look forward to welcoming guests back and furthering our legacy.”

The resort’s 81 guest rooms and suites, three restaurants and bars and wellness and recreational facilities are all utilizing thorough, high-frequency cleanings in accordance with local and international authorities. Limited-contact options for checking in and out, housekeeping and dining provide another level of personal comfort for guests, as they will be consulted before arrival as to their preferences. Locals and visitors from the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico can enjoy luxury accommodations at an exclusive rate, including a $100 nightly resort credit.

Rosewood Little Dix is known for their bespoke style and elegant service, and the stunning location sets the stage for the perfect getaway. Two pools, a sophisticated tennis centre, hiking trail, fitness centre and fantastic cliffside spa all contribute to the vacation of a lifetime.

Saba Rock

Perched on a one-acre cay in the middle of North Sound Virgin Gorda, Saba Rock is the perfect blend of tranquillity and sophisticated island fun. Following a complete rebuild, Saba Rock will officially open in the Spring of 2021.

“We’re eager to rejoin our local tourism partners in welcoming guests to this beautiful destination,” said General Manager Alain Prion. “Saba holds a special place in the hearts of many, and we can’t wait for our past guests to see and experience the new resort. We expect fans will embrace our new identity and hope our chic and casual setting will attract new customers as well.”

The total transformation of Saba Rock includes a new contemporary design aesthetic focused on the destination’s nautical lifestyle. The magnificent ocean surroundings are the star of the show. Seven guestrooms and two suites will soon open and feature water-based adventure themes that the BVI is known for, including diving, kiteboarding and windsurfing.

Elevated resort amenities and services are a welcome reinvigoration, including a bar and restaurant on the lower level featuring an eclectic menu of Caribbean-fusion cuisine. The Happy Hour Bar and Lounge on the upper deck will also be available to be rented out for private events. Other onsite amenities include a dive shop, retail boutique, spa with select services, full-service marina, and a kiteboarding and kitesurfing school.
